This part of Spain is still undiscovered in many ways. Actually Catalonia has everything: coast and sunshine, beaches and beautiful small villages, mountains and skiing, tremendous gastronomy and a lot of still very alive culture and traditions.

Avenida has a website in Swedish - upplevkatalonien.com that this year will be updated and get a new look. We will also translate it into English. This website gives you options of hotels and accommodation all over Catolonia and we also publish organised trips like walking tours along the coast or bicycle tours from the mountains to the coast.

Coast villages and beaches

Along the Mediterranean coast, both north and south of Barcelona, you find line of beautiful villages. In south, the most famous is Sitges and most of the other are cities with high apartment blocks and long big beaches. In the north the villages and cities are smaller, more are old fishing villages. Maybe the most famous one is Cadaques, where Salvador Dali stayed at the end of his life.

Mountains and skiing

Catalonia has several big ski resorts in the Pyreenean mountains and it takes only 2-3 hours to get the from Barcelona. Also, the neighbour country Andorra is also there. The mountain part of Catalonia is full of small village with houses put together on top of a mountain,. They are wonderful to visit both summer and winter.

 

Gastronomy

One of the world most famous chef - Ferran Adrià - comes from Catalonia. Thanks to his success many other good restaurant has arrived and other chefs are working with a real innovating gastronomy. There are a huge amount of different types of gastronomy to discover.

Culture and traditions

The Catalan traditions where forbidden during the dictatorship of Franco and with the democracy came back more strong than ever. Therefore many young Catalans take part of the traditions and activities. Every village has its Festa Major every year and many things are happening and the visitor can participate.
